Vehicle description

In the mid-sixties, BMW made a name for itself above all in the mid-range segment, where the compact models of the "New Class" gave the brand the image of affordable, everyday sports cars. In 1968, the S-Class from Mercedes-Benz was finally followed by the introduction of the E3 full-size saloon and thus the development of a new, wealthy customer base. In order to remain true to the sporty character of the brand, the coupé version of the luxury class model with the factory code E9 was introduced in the same year. In contrast to the lower-priced coupés of the new class, the elegant two-door model was only available with six-cylinder engines. The new engine, called the M30, created the basis for BMW's reputation as a manufacturer of reliable, sporty six-cylinder in-line engines that continues to this day. Initially only available in the 2800 CS variant with a 2.8-liter carburetor engine, the Model 3.0 CS followed in April 1971 with a displacement increased to three liters and an increase in power to 180 hp. In the autumn of 1971, the BMW 3.0 CSi with intake manifold injection was added as a further model variant: this now had an output of 200 hp and reached a top speed of 220 km/h. In addition to the sporty driving characteristics, however, the coupé impressed above all with its elegant design: The legendary design by the then chief designer Wilhelm Hofmeister continued to shape the typical BMW brand face in the following decades and is now one of the most iconic creations of the Munich-based car manufacturer.

In this auction, there is now the opportunity to purchase a BMW 3.0 CSi of the E9 series. The coupé with the vehicle identification number 2261271 dates from 1971 and was first registered for German road traffic in January 1972. In total, the car was previously with seven vehicle owners, a complete history is not available according to the seller. The car has an H-approval, a valuation report is not available. Whether it is a vehicle with "matching numbers", the seller can not confirm with certainty. The coupé comes with a set of a total of three vehicle keys. The next main inspection is due in October 2022, an accident is ruled out by the current owner in his holding period.

...

The paint finish of the sporty coupé is kept in silver color, which has been renewed according to the seller. The paint work was apparently carried out professionally, so that the body of the BMW still makes a good impression today. The exterior of the car, including chrome elements, looks well maintained all around: Although minor signs of wear can be seen here, serious defects in the coupé are not found, and the body also makes a carefree impression when it comes to rust.

...

The mounted 14" BMW alloy wheels fit harmoniously into the overall picture of the car, and also look very well maintained. The seller attests to the good condition of the fitted tyres, and the brakes also perform their service properly according to the information. No modifications were made to the body and chassis. According to the information, the car is currently in accident-free condition.

...

The fact that the car has always been treated carefully is also evident from a view to the interior. Lush wood cladding with chrome decorations stands for the luxury of the sixties and is still in good shape fifty years later. Although the seat cushions show small signs of wear, they are not chafed or worn. The "joy of driving" is ensured by the manual transmission and the built-in Momo Alpina four-spoke wooden steering wheel, which fits harmoniously into the wood-clad interior of the coupé.

...

Four round instruments in the cockpit show the driver all relevant information. According to the seller, the speedometer is without function – so the BMW has already run around 68,500km instead of the displayed 19,000km, according to the information. According to the information, the car does not have a history, but newer documents such as TüV test reports are included. According to the information, all other instruments work without restrictions.

...

The robust six-cylinder in-line engine with Bosch D-Jetronic intake manifold injection and 2985 cc displacement in the 3.0 CSi delivers 200hp. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels by manual transmission. When the car received the last service, the seller can not indicate with certainty - defects or complaints in the field of engine and technology are not mentioned.

...

The subfloor is in an age-appropriate condition and shows no reason to worry.
