Model history

Shortly after the launch of its predecessor, the R 107, Mercedes-Benz began developing its successor in 1974. However, over the course of its biblically long production period of 18 years, the R 107 developed into a perennial favorite, which is why the successor was repeatedly postponed and detailed work on the R 129 did not take place again until 1981. The new SL generation of the R 129 model series finally celebrated its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in 1989. When it came to safety, Mercedes-Benz naturally also wanted to impress with this model series: ABS, airbags (initially only optional for the driver), a retractable roll bar and so-called integral seats at the front, with seat belts and tensioners attached to the seat.

• The odometer and trip odometer occasionally do not work, while the speedometer and rev counter work perfectly.
• Since the battery was reinstalled, the ABS light has been illuminated in the display, as has the SDA light, but this has recently gone out of its own accord.
• Electric driver's seat only works sporadically
