In 1974, Porsche introduced the 911 Turbo, which was referred to as the Porsche 930 in the internal nomenclature, as the first production sports car with a factory-installed turbocharger. Porsche quickly recognized the potential and in 1981 offered the low-rise variant as a standard option for the Porsche 930 as part of the "special request program", in which the headlights were integrated into the bonnet by means of hinged lights. The low-rise 930, also known as the "Slantnose", was also able to surpass the performance of the standard model due to the more aerodynamic body. In the eight-year production period, only 948 models were built, the majority of which were produced as classic coupé variants.
