Vehicle description

In 1974, Porsche introduced the 911 Turbo, which was referred to as the Porsche 930 in the internal nomenclature, as the first production sports car with a factory-installed turbocharger. The top model of the Zuffenhausen-based company was the fastest production sports car in Germany when it was introduced. Initially only available as a coupé, the Cabriolet and the semi-open Targa model followed in 1987. Porsche engineers soon took advantage of the remarkable performance of the turbo 911 and developed the 935 racing model based on the 930. The race car was technically closely related to the production model, and was designed in accordance with the FIA regulations for use in Group 5. Visually, the motorsport driver was also closely related to the production model, but received a radical redesign of the front of the vehicle to increase downforce: By redesigning the fenders and moving the headlights to the front apron, the characteristic low-rise car front was born, which gave the motorsport car a striking appearance. At the latest after the Le Mans victory in 1979, the desire for a roadworthy 911 in a low-rise look also grew among private customers, so that initially German tuning companies such as Ruf and Kremer modified the production models according to the inspiration of the 935. Porsche quickly recognized the potential and in 1981 offered the low-rise variant as a standard option for the Porsche 930 as part of the "special request program", in which the headlights were integrated into the bonnet by means of hinged lights. The low-rise 930, also known as the "Slantnose", was also able to surpass the performance of the standard model due to the more aerodynamic body. In the eight-year production period, only 948 models were built, the majority of which were produced as classic coupé variants. One of the rarest examples of the 930 Slantnose is the Targa model, of which only 87 copies were factory-produced.

In this auction there is now a unique opportunity to buy a rare Porsche 930 Targa "Slantnose". The special model with the VIN WP0ZZZ93ZHS060085 is one of nine models produced in this variant in 1987. The vehicle comes from the United States and was first registered for road traffic in February 1987. The exact number of vehicle owners cannot be determined, but the car has a history including enclosed documents such as invoices and test reports. In addition to the original delivery receipt, the Porsche's stay in the USA can be traced via Carfax for the period from 1987 to 2018: Initially registered in Florida, the low-rise 930 found its way via Michigan to California, where it was from 2013. The vehicle was issued a certificate of authenticity by Porsche North America in 1994, which is also enclosed with the car. The seller attests to the rare Porsche "Matching Numbers", an expert opinion and an H-approval are also available. The main inspection at the TüV is new, the car is accompanied by a vehicle key. The vehicle is in an accident-free condition.

"Grand Prix White" is the name of the exterior paint finish of the 930 Slantnose, which with the color code 908 is one of the standard paint finishes of the 1987 model year. An excellent condition can be seen in the body and paintwork: there is no trace of scratches or damage to the exterior of the Porsche, and even minor stone chips are sought in vain. The car is an excellent care to see, so that rust on the vehicle body is not an issue. Likewise, the black plastic parts including seals are flawless, and the Targa roof also presents itself visually and technically without defects. As a US import vehicle, the 930 has different body specifications, which can be recognized by the bumpers and the third brake light.

...

The forged alloy wheels in the dimensions 7Jx16 front and 9Jx16 rear are also painted in the body color "Grand Prix White", which is part of the optional equipment of the car. The rims and paint are also in very good condition, so that there are no defects or damage here. The tyres in the dimensions 205/50 R16 or 245/45 VR16 attest to the seller's good condition. Thanks to regular maintenance, the brakes of the 930 are also in good shape, there are no defects in these areas. In addition to the factory Slantnose conversion, the body of the 930 is in unmodified original condition. The car is in accident-free condition.

...

The interior of the Porsche is in the colour "Crimson Red". Here, too, the first-class impression of the car continues: the sumptuous leather interior is in excellent condition on the door panels and emergency seats, and even in the driver and front passenger seats, no signs of wear and tear can be seen. The installed radio unit is the original Blaupunkt "Reno" cassette radio, with which the Porsche was delivered 35 years ago. The vehicle's optional features include a folding roof, electric windows and air conditioning.

...

Behind the steering wheel, the instrument panel is presented in classic 911 style, including round instruments with a centrally mounted rev counter. As a US model, the speed is displayed in miles per hour, but the additional display also shows it in km/h. The six-digit speedometer has a total mileage of 27285 miles, which corresponds to almost 44000km. The mileage is traceable via the history and enclosed documents. According to the information, the instruments work without restrictions.

...

In the rear of the Porsche is the air-cooled 3.3-liter 6-cylinder boxer engine with turbocharger. The engine with the code 930/68 was installed in all US turbo models, and produces a maximum power of 282 hp. Shifting is done manually via the four-speed manual transmission. The Porsche received its last service in February 2022. Defects in the area of technology and engine are also not detected, so that no repairs are currently due for the 930. The seller describes the condition of the subfloor as good.
