Model history

The BMW E24 marks the beginning of the 6 Series and was produced from January 1976 to 1989. As a sporty grand tourer model, it replaced the BMW E9 and was available exclusively as a 2-door coupe. All versions of the E24 were equipped with gasoline engines, with most models—with the exception of the M635CSi/M6—based on the robust BMW M30 inline six-cylinder engine. The E24 was replaced in 2004 by the E63 6 Series, which appeared after a 16-year hiatus.
