Model history

In the early 1960s, the renowned German car manufacturer Mercedes ventured into the mid-size car segment with the W110 model. In 1965, the original Mercedes received a model update, after which 200 D was launched. Powered by a powerful 2.0-liter diesel engine, the model quickly attracted attention and became known as the Mercedes tail fin due to its design. The small tail fin is considered a discreet charm of the 60s. Never before had a Mercedes-Benz flirted so intimately with the zeitgeist : The tail fin models carried a touch of Hollywood onto German roads. Today they are the epitome of the reliable everyday classic. Up to 1968 scarcely 161,000 pieces were produced.
