Mercedes Benz W115 220 D (1972)

Vehicle description

Model history:

The model variety of the Mercedes-Benz Stroke Eight is unique for its time: all models added together result in an impressive 19 different versions. No wonder that the mid-size Benz found over 1.8 million buyers and that there are 2 official type abbreviations for it: W 114 for the six-cylinder and W 115 for the four-cylinder. The spectrum of the Stroke Eight ranges from the rustic 200 D with 55 hp to the coupé 280 CE with 185 hp. The designation "/8" stands for the year of release of the Mercedes-Benz: 1968. In 1973, a major facelift took place, which among other things brought a wider radiator grille, fluted rear lights, a modified rain gutter and a revised interior.

General information about the vehicle:

This vehicle is a Mercedes-Benz 220 D (W115), which was first registered in 1972, comes from 1st hand and, according to the sellers, has undergone a complete restoration in the years from 2021 to 2023. The Mercedes-Benz is accompanied by a partially kept checkbook - the history is thus approximately comprehensible and the matching numbers are assumed according to the current owner. The 220 had its last TÜV until September 2022.

Exterior colour/varnish/body:

According to the seller, an accident can be completely ruled out on the exterior, the beige body is in an original and due to the recent restoration work - in the course of which a repainting took place - in clean condition. All chrome parts on the exterior shine in full splendour and missing parts on the body can apparently not be named. In order to get a detailed picture of the exterior condition of this sedan, we recommend reviewing the numerous detailed photos and videos of the vehicle.

Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:

Tyres in size 175/80 are mounted on original steel rims with Mercedes-Benz chrome hubcaps in the size of 14 inches. Both the brakes and the tyres have only recently been added after consultation with the seller. There are no modifications to the chassis.

Interior:

The interior of this Mercedes-Benz 220 D Sedan is decorated in two-tone leather - the seats have brown seat bolsters and the centre track is upholstered in black leather. The dashboard and the large 2-spoke steering wheel, on the other hand, are completely black with chrome accents. The equipment includes a Kenwood accessory radio. For a more detailed overview of the equipment features of this sedan as well as the detailed condition of the interior, the telling pictures are available.

Mileage:

According to the seller, the Mercedes-Benz Stroke Eight is said to have run 14,500 kilometers read on the five-digit speedometer, a partially kept checkbook is available for the 220 D. All instruments as well as displays and controls work perfectly.

Engine:

The 2.2-liter in-line four-cylinder diesel engine of this Mercedes-Benz W115 delivers 60 hp, the power of the 4 cylinders is delivered to the rear axle via a manual 4-speed transmission. According to the seller, last service work on the vehicle took place in 2022.

Subsoil:

The current owner of the sedan describes the underbody as rustproof and cavity sealed. Due to the recent restoration work, which started in 2021 and was not completed until 2023, this Mercedes-Benz model series 115 offered here shines in good condition in terms of exterior, interior and technology. The seller is not aware of any gross damage to the vehicle and the future owner can look forward to a solid Mercedes-Benz sedan from the 1970s.
