Mercedes Benz W111 (1961)

Vehicle description

Model history:

Although visually completely redesigned compared to its predecessor, Mercedes-Benz relied on the tried and tested under the sheet metal for the 111 model series: the chassis of the Ponton was adopted in principle, but comprehensively revised, including shock absorbers set far outwards. The original subframe had become a cross member. In addition to the four-door vehicles ("fintail" sedans), there was also a coupe and a convertible. The shapely coupé was designed by Paul Bracq. The filigree roof of the W 111 Coupé became his trademark, and it also reappeared in a modified form on the 600 (W 100) or W 108/109 and W 114/115.

General information about the vehicle:

A Mercedes-Benz W 111 Coupé can now be auctioned in this auction: This is the model 220 SE, which demonstrably comes from 3rd hand and received its first registration in September 1961. According to the seller, the total mileage of the Mercedes-Benz is also verifiable. The 220 SE was first registered in 1961 to a company, then a change of registration to the authorized signatory of the same company and finally a decommissioning of the coupé took place in 1983. Subsequently, the W 111 underwent a restoration and the TÜV full acceptance took place in 2000 - a little later the registration for the current owner took place. The last main inspection is valid until August 2024. It is also worth mentioning that there are still 2 key sets for the vehicle.

Exterior colour/varnish/body:

Externally, this Mercedes-Benz 220 SE bears the paint colour black (colour code 040) - this makes the various chrome/trim elements particularly apparent. Speaking of decorative elements: According to the seller, no missing parts can be complained about on the car and all chrome parts are preserved in apparently shiny condition. The large-sized bumpers of the coupé show only slight traces of parking bumps. Deviations from the original condition cannot be found on the exterior. For more details, please have a look at the other photos and videos.

Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:

Original hubcaps in body colour adorn the exterior condition of the Mercedes-Benz together with tyres, which obviously have sufficient tread. Neither in the area of the brakes nor with regard to the chassis are known to the current owner inconsistencies.

Interior:

Dark green leather seats adorn the interior of the 220 SE Coupé: in addition to the seats, the door panels and the footwell carpet are also kept in green. A lot of wood can be taken from the dashboard, the large 2-spoke steering wheel can be found in black color. In view of the age of the vehicle, which is now over 60 years, the interior has a well-kept and equally well-preserved condition - missing parts are not visible. The equipment of this W 111 includes a Becker car radio. In order to get a detailed picture of the equipment and overall condition of the interior, we refer to the telling pictures of this Mercedes-Benz.

Mileage

The instruments behind the steering wheel are decorated with wood décor: according to the current owner, the 121,150 total kilometres covered by this Mercedes-Benz can be documented by an accumulation of TÜV receipts and other documents. In addition, the data card, the original cardboard letter and the operating instructions are available for the car. All instruments work perfectly after consultation with the seller.

Engine

The 2.2-litre in-line six-cylinder engine of this 220 SE Coupé delivers 120 hp, and power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission. This Mercedes-Benz was regularly serviced and repairs were always carried out.

Subsoil:

The underside of the Mercedes-Benz Coupé is preserved - inconsistencies on the underbody of the car are apparently not to be discovered. With this stately Mercedes-Benz Coupé from the 1960s, the future owner secures an elegant car, which also gives a convertible feeling with 4 lowered windows - due to the missing B-pillar. The seller also mentions the rich history of this 220 SE and also highlights the unique colour combination of the coupé.
