Model history

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG (C 197) was unveiled at the IAA in 2009 and went on sale in March 2010. As the first production model since the 300 SL to feature gullwing doors and the first vehicle developed independently by AMG, it marks a milestone for the brand. The 6.2-liter V8 was hand-built in Affalterbach according to the "one man, one engine" principle and assembled in Sindelfingen. The roadster (R 197) followed in 2011, and the SLS AMG was also used as a Formula 1 safety car. Production ended in June 2014 with the GT Final Edition, which was presented in 2013.
