The Fiat 500 L, a model of the legendary Fiat 500 series, was first introduced in 1967 and brought with it a number of improvements over its predecessors. The L stood for Lusso, which referred to the upscale equipment and increased comfort, including a more modern dashboard and better seats. The air-cooled two-cylinder engine with 499.5 cc and 18 hp gave the small city car sufficient power for urban traffic. The Fiat 500 L built on the success of the original 500 series, which debuted in 1957 and took Italy by storm. The series was loved for its economy, reliability and charming design and contributed significantly to mass motorization in Europe. Production of the Fiat 500 L ended in 1972, but its popularity and cult status live on to this day.
