Model history:

In 1963, Mercedes-Benz presented the W 113 model series at the Geneva Motor Show. The new convertible was intended to replace both the 190 SL and the 300 SL. The new SL marked the transition from the rounded shapes of its predecessors to a more functional style with smooth surfaces and plenty of usable space. In addition, extensive safety measures such as crumple zones were introduced for the first time in an SL. The optional inwardly curved hardtop earned the W 113 the nickname Pagoda. In 1971 the pagoda was replaced by R 107.

General information about the vehicle:

In this auction, a Mercedes-Benz 230 SL from 1965 can be bought at auction. The convertible with chassis number 11304210013598 was delivered in Germany and is currently in sixth hands. An H approval is already available, the next main inspection is scheduled for December 2024. The history is unfortunately incomplete and only the period from 1989 to 2023 can be traced on the basis of some documents. In addition, the original cardboard letter is available. Since 2009, the SL has mainly been located in a hall and has only been moved a few hundred kilometres.

Exterior colour/varnish/body:

In 1991 the pagoda was restored and repainted. The invoice for DM 17,500 is available. As you can see from the numerous photos, the gray lacquer presents itself in good condition. The characteristic hardtop in body colour is also part of the auction. The soft top is already getting old and should, depending on the demands on the vehicle, soon be renewed.

Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:

The tires of the well-preserved 14-inch baroque rims should be renewed according to the seller. The condition of the brakes is assessed as very good.

Interior:

The interior of the pagoda is furnished with black leather seats and black carpet. Also in the interior, some components were renewed in the course of the restoration. In addition, seat belts have already been retrofitted. The wooden trim elements in the area of the dashboard should be refreshed soon. For easier manoeuvring, this pagoda is equipped with power steering.

Mileage

The five-digit odometer of the SL shows a mileage of 8,219 kilometers, while the total mileage is 108,219 kilometers. In 2007, the engine was replaced by an original Mercedes-Benz replacement unit by a specialist workshop, since then the pagoda has only been moved 340 kilometres.

Engine:

The six-cylinder in-line engine with 2.3 liters of displacement delivers 150 hp and a 4-speed manual transmission is installed. As already mentioned, it is not the original engine, but a replacement engine. Since the car stood for a long time and has hardly been driven with the new engine so far, it should first be carefully retracted. The last service was carried out in December 2022. The subfloor is welded and preserved by the seller.

Who is this car for?

The pagoda is considered one of the most beautiful cars of all time, even with this specimen it quickly becomes clear why. In this SL still a little investment has to be made, but then nothing stands in the way of extensive tours.
