The 126 series from Mercedes-Benz is a series of vehicles in the luxury class. It replaced the 116 series in September 1979 as the S-Class. As the successor to the C 107, Mercedes presented the coupé variant of the 126 series at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1981. Although production of the 126 series officially ended in October 1991, 38 vehicles were still produced in special protection versions until April 1992. Mercedes-Benz South Africa continued to produce the 126 series in small numbers until June 1994. Almost 892,000 units of the Mercedes-Benz W126 were produced until 1991, and this model is still the most produced luxury sedan.
