With the 996 model, Porsche made a rad­i­cal break with the pre­vi­ous 911 tra­di­tion in 1998: instead of air-cooled, a water-cooled boxer engine was used for the first time – a tech­ni­cal neces­sity in order to meet exhaust emis­sion stan­dards and per­for­mance require­ments. Visu­ally, too, hardly any­thing remained of the orig­i­nal 911: the body was wider, longer, and aero­dy­nam­i­cally redesigned. The Car­rera 4S vari­ant in par­tic­u­lar com­bines the turbo look with a wide track, all-wheel drive, and har­mo­nious design – mak­ing it one of the most sought-after mod­els in the 996 series.
