Model history:
"Thunderbird" is one of the longest-used names in the entire American automotive industry. Overall, the T-Bird called car was offered by Ford in the years from 1955 to 1997 and again from 2002 to 2005, in total eleven generations were created over the years. The "Classic Birds" (1st generation) were followed a short time later by the so-called "Square Birds" (model year 1958-1960): With this 2nd generation of Thunderbirds, the large American car was no longer a sports two-seater, but a comfortable and large four- to five-seater, which was available as a coupé and convertible.
General information about the vehicle:
The Ford Thunderbird offered for auction here is a coupe from the so-called "Square Bird" series, which was first registered in the USA in 1960 and then came to Germany over the years. According to sellers, this already restored T-Bird Coupé has only one holder. Although it is no longer possible to present an exact history of the vehicle, the Thunderbird has a TÜV until November 2024 and the car is already in possession of an H-approval. The so-called matching numbers are given according to the seller.
Exterior colour/varnish/body:
Although the Thunderbird, which shines in white paint color, has already been completely repainted. According to the current owner, an accident can be ruled out. All add-on parts are in good condition and modifications and traces of corrosion cannot be detected on the body. Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:
Goodyear tyres are mounted on chrome steel rims and ensure a successful overall appearance of the vehicle. The condition of the tyres is estimated by the seller after inquiry as well as the condition of the brakes somewhere between 70-90%. Apparently, no inconsistencies can be detected on the chassis.
Interior:
The current owner of the Thunderbird describes the newly restored interior as extremely good: The sweeping leather seats of the T-Bird are two-tone in white / red. Red color is also extremely present in the interior of the car: Among other things, the door panels, the center console and the dashboard are colored red. In addition to power steering and power windows, this coupe also has air conditioning, power brakes and an original radio. According to the seller, all equipment elements of the car work perfectly.
Mileage
3 round instruments are located in the driver's cockpit: The speedometer is integrated in the centrally placed speedometer. The seller states that the approximately traceable total mileage of the Thunderbird is about 50,000 miles in total. The function of all instruments in the interior is fully given.
Engine
From 5.8-liter displacement, the V8 engine of this T-Bird draws a whopping 304 SAE hp - at 2,800 rpm, the maximum torque of 516 Newton meters is already available. Via a three-speed automatic transmission, the power of the 8 cylinders is transmitted to the rear axle. Only recently (in November 2022) the last service work on the car took place.
Subsoil:
The condition of the subfloor can be seen in the pictures. Today, the Thunderbird is one of the most popular American classics, making it an icon of American automotive engineering.
