Model history

The Porsche Cayman R represents the pinnacle of the first Cayman generation (type 987.2) and was introduced as a particularly dynamic, sporty special model. Porsche unveiled the Cayman R at its premiere on November 17, 2010, at the LA Auto Show and offered it on the European market from February 2011. Compared to the regular Cayman S, the Cayman R featured a weight reduction of around 55 kg, a slight increase in power to 330 hp, and a 20 mm lower sports suspension. The weight reduction measures included aluminum doors, sportier seats, optional removal of comfort features such as the radio or air conditioning, and a more sporty design. With these features, Porsche clearly positioned the Cayman R as a purist sports car for enthusiasts — more uncompromising in its handling than the normal Cayman model, but still suitable for road use.
