Technik: Wie bereits beim Vorgängermodell stellten die USA den größten Absatzmarkt. Der überwiegende Teil der Fahrzeuge war mit den großvolumigen V8-Motoren ausgestattet. Die A-Säule war für Überschläge besonders fest ausgelegt, ein Airbag war seit 1982 erhältlich. Mit den Typen 450 SLC, 450 SLC 5.0 und 500 SLC nahm Daimler-Benz Ende der 1970er Jahre an großen Rallyes wie der 30.000 km langen Vuelta à la America del Sud (1978), der Safari-Rallye (1979) und der Bandama-Rallye (1979/1980) teil. Ein Nachfolgemodell wurde bereits Anfang der 1980er Jahre entwickelt, jedoch zugunsten der Mittelklasse-Baureihen W 124 und W 201 zurückgestellt. Dadurch blieb die Baureihe R 107 insgesamt 18 Jahre lang im Angebot. Nachfolger des SL (R 107) war der 1989 vorgestellte R 129, der offizielle Nachfolger des SLC (C 107) war der 1981 vorgestellte SEC der Baureihe 126. LG Tom
