While the TR5 was still designed by Triumph's court designer Michelotti, the Italian-looking design of the TR6 presented in 1968 was created in Germany: The coachbuilder Karmann created a coherent, modern and yet timeless face that stands out from the crowd. Triumph's new model was particularly well received in the USA: these US models were equipped with two Stromberg carburettors due to stricter emission and consumption regulations, while the models built for Europe were fired by a mechanical Lucas injection system. By the end of production in 1976, almost 100,000 units of the TR6 roadster had been built.

Black leather can be found in the interior of this TR6 from first registration in 1972, the perforated 3-spoke sports steering wheel is covered with leather and the linkage of the manual transmission is also covered with leather.
