Model history

The Jaguar XJ-S was introduced in 1975 as a Gran Turismo and remained in production until 1996. Developed on the basis of the Jaguar XJ sedan and equipped with the well-known V12 engine from the E-Type Series III, Jaguar deliberately opted for a comfortable and powerful coupé instead of a classic roadster. The design, which was initially controversial, developed over the years into a distinctive and recognizable design language. With a production run of over 20 years and around 115,000 units produced, the XJ-S and later XJS are among the brand's most successful sports models. During this period, a total of three model series with different engines and body variants were produced.
