Model history:

After almost 20 years of construction of the SL R107, the successor to the R129 series was launched in 1989. A new design language and many technical highlights ensured that over 200,000 units were sold. The technical innovations included an all-electric fabric roof, extendable roll-over protection and the new integral seats. The engines ranged from six-cylinder, eight- to twelve-cylinder engines.

General information about the vehicle:

In this auction, a Mercedes-Benz 500 SL from 1991 with a mileage of only 62,000 kilometres can be bought at auction. The SL was first registered in the USA and has two previous owners. The car was already registered in Germany, so the corresponding documents are available. The next main inspection is due in February 2025 and a classic car report for the H license plate is already available. According to the seller, the vehicle in the current possession is accident-free and matching numbers are also given. Currently, the extendable roll-over protection cannot be adjusted, which also puts the soft top control out of function. The seller suspects a defective electronic component.

Exterior colour/varnish/body:

The SL has dark blue plain paint and a dark blue soft top. The seller cannot provide any information on possible repainting. For a good impression of the paint condition, we refer to the numerous photos of the vehicle. On the rear bumper and the taillights it can still be seen that this is an American first delivery.

Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:

On the original 8-hole alloy wheels almost new tires in size 225/55ZR16 are mounted. The rims occasionally show slight curb damage. In December 2022, new brake pads and brake discs were installed, so that the SL decelerates safely.

Interior:

The interior with the date-colored leather interior presents itself in good condition. Seats and carpets show hardly any wear, only a few damaged or missing plastic parts indicate a vehicle that is over 30 years old. The seller states that the gear knob and seat are still being revised. In addition, this SL scores with a sumptuous optional extra. Among other things, both seats have an electric adjustment with memory function as well as an orthopaedic backrest and seat heating. Also on board are the original Becker Grand Prix 2000 radio, automatic climate control, cruise control, anti-theft alarm system and a wind deflector.

Mileage:

The instrument cluster shows a mileage of only 38,365 miles, which corresponds to 61,742 kilometers. The mileage can also be traced. The speedometer scale makes it possible to read the speed in both mph and km/h.

Engine:

The 5-liter V8 of the Mercedes delivers 326 hp. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission. According to the seller, it is the original engine. The last service was carried out in December 2022.
