Model history
"The best or nothing" - this Mercedes-Benz motto also characterizes the S-Class, the luxury class model from Sindelfingen. During the oil crisis of the 1970s, comfort and luxury were combined with energy efficiency: lighter construction, aerodynamic optimization and revised engines resulted in the elegant W126 under chief designer Bruno Sacco. Introduced in 1979, it became a bestseller and enjoyed great popularity until 1991, even with German Chancellor Helmut Kohl. In 1985, a facelift brought subtle design changes and new engines, marking the beginning of the "second series" of the W126.

Comments of this past auction
