The Mer­cedes-Benz S-Class 126 series was pro­duced over a period of twelve years and con­tin­u­ously devel­oped. In 1985, the model under­went a com­pre­hen­sive facelift with sub­tle visual mod­i­fi­ca­tions and new engines. Vehi­cles man­u­fac­tured up to August 1985 belong to the first series, while mod­els from Sep­tem­ber 1985 onwards – pre­sented at the IAA in Frank­furt – belong to the sec­ond series.
