- The Mercedes-Benz W 124, introduced in 1984 as the successor to the W 123, set new standards in the mid-size class. With various body styles, including sedan, station wagon and coupe, and engines, including four-, six- and eight-cylinder gasoline engines with displacements of 6.0 liters, it offered a wide range of choices. The W 124 was regarded as the epitome of quality and reliability. Over 2.7 million units were sold worldwide before production ceased in 1997.
