BMW 320i Cabriolet E30 (1987)

Kickdown's Take

by Louis Kalendruschat

Everything about this 320i convertible is just right: a coveted six-cylinder engine in a classic color combination, owned by the same family for almost 30 years and with a plausible mileage of only 99,339. A collector's item like this comes at a price.

Model history

With the introduction of the BMW E30 in 1982, BMW replaced the first 3 Series E21. The design, further developed by Claus Luthe, offered a variety of variants for the first time: in addition to the classic two-door sedan, four-door models, the legendary convertible and, from 1987, the Touring station wagon were soon added. The E30 became a milestone in BMW history – not least because of the sporty M3 and the introduction of all-wheel drive and diesel engines within the series. The open-top E30 convertible became a style-defining classic of the 1980s and 1990s.
