Model history

The Opel Manta, a rear-wheel drive sports coupé, was produced by the German manufacturer Opel in two generations from 1970 to 1988. The Manta was a rather sporty coupé based on the Ascona family car and competed with cars such as the Ford Capri. Its name is derived from the majestic Manta ray.
The second generation of the Manta was launched in August 1975. This two-door "three-box" car was mechanically based directly on the redesigned Opel Ascona, while the overall design was influenced by the 1975 Chevrolet Monza.
