Model history
The fourth generation of the BMW M3 appeared in spring 2007 and was available in three body variants: coupé, convertible and saloon. Aesthetics, high performance potential and absolute suitability for everyday use characterized the new M3 models. For the first time in the history of the M3, BMW used a V8 engine with a displacement of 4 liters and 420 hp in this model series. A completely newly developed chassis with its own, M-typical axle kinetics and predominantly aluminum, a more aggressively designed front end as well as horizontal "gills" in the front fenders, plus powerfully shaped side skirts, gave the vehicle a special character. Production of the fourth-generation M3 ended in 2013.

Technik: Bei der Entwicklung versuchte BMW, das Gewicht zu optimieren. Dafür wurde das Seriendach des Coupés aus kohlenstofffaserverstärktem Kunststoff (sogenanntes „Sichtcarbon“) entwickelt, die Stoßstangenträger aus Endlos-Glasfaserverstärktem Thermoplast (sog. Organoblech aus PA6/Glas) gefertigt und eine Motorhaube aus Aluminium verbaut. Der 202 Kilogramm schwere Vierliter-Achtzylinder ist mit allen Nebenaggregaten beispielsweise um immerhin 15 Kilogramm leichter als der Sechszylinder aus dem Vorgänger. Das Leergewicht liegt bei 1655 kg (Coupé) und damit trotzdem fast 100 kg über dem des Vorgängers. Alle drei Varianten verwenden ausschließlich den BMW-S65-Motor mit Hochdrehzahl-V8. LG Tom
