Model history

For the farewell of the third generation Corvette, Chevrolet decided to offer a final special model - the "Collectors Edition". Based on the experience with the 1978 Pace Car replicas - in which many basic coupes were converted into fake pace cars by consumers - the decision was made to produce the 1982 Collector Edition Corvettes only on demand and according to customer orders. In addition, special vehicle identification plates were added to prevent standard cars from being converted into Collectors Edition replicas.
