Model history:

The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL is a roadster that was produced between 1955 and 1963 and revived the sports car segment of the traditional Württemberg brand after the war. The W 121 B II type brand was produced in parallel with the somewhat more powerful W 198 from the GT class and was technically based on the "Ponton" Mercedes of the upper middle class. In contrast to the sedan, the 190 SL had a specially developed engine that produced more horsepower with the same displacement, thus emphasizing the dynamic character of the vehicle. The sporty design was similar to that of the 300 SL, while at the same time the 190 SL impressed with its excellent driving characteristics and is today regarded as the forerunner of the SLK.

General to the vehicle:

The vehicle described here comes from the year of construction 1962 and has the vehicle identification number 12104010023701. It had approximately five previous owners, whereby the exact number, according to the salesman is not known. The car was imported from the USA and has an H license plate. In addition, the Mercedes is roadworthy, registered and still has TÜV until March 2025. There is no checkbook, however, according to information, an expert opinion was made, in which the body scored 1-. The SL is a vehicle in exceptionally good condition, which was restored according to the seller just under 4.5 years in a renowned Mercedes specialist workshop. According to the seller, the present appraisal was made before many other visits to Mercedes including engine overhaul and the overhauled carburetor.

Exterior color/paint/body:

The exterior of the Mercedes impresses with its elegant gray paint. According to information available to us, the Mercedes has been completely restored and repainted. The soft top is also brand new. Invoices of restoration and appraisal can be proven by the attached pictures.

Exterior Rims/Brakes/Suspension:

Classic and timeless Mercedes rims with Maxxis MA rims ensure that the 190 SL rolls over the roads. Furthermore, the front and rear axles, brake system, exhaust system, brake lines were completely overhauled or renewed. The rims are in a, as seen on the pictures, good condition.

Interior:

The design of the interior knows in all respects to convince. A brown leather interior in combination with the luxurious dashboard are an absolute eye-catcher. The interior is, as seen in the pictures, in a visually very good condition.

Mileage:

Read off the Mercedes 190 SL has run only 1,204 kilometers since the complete engine overhaul. According to information from the seller, the exact mileage is not known. The engine overhaul was only two years ago.

Engine:

The technology and the engine are important buying criteria. In this case, it is an overhauled 105 hp engine with manual transmission. No expense was spared in the overhaul. According to the seller, the carburetor overhaul alone at the Wallner Classic workshop in Munich, which specializes in 190 SLs, cost 4,600 euros. Among the extensive list of work performed on the engine alone were:

• Crankshaft measured, polished, balanced
• Pistons and piston rings new
• Main bearings new

• incl. timing chain and chain tensioner
• incl. new water pump and thermostat

• incl. seat rings milled out
• Delivery and press-fitting of specially hardened valve seat rings for lead-free operation
• valve contour milled into seat ring, valves ground in
• cylinder head face milled, valves checked for tightness
• incl. all gaskets, shaft sealing ring/seal rings/Burgmann ring (toroidal sealing ring)
• incl. spark plugs, oil filter,

For an overview of all work and pictures of the disassembled engine, please refer to the picture gallery. The last service was carried out in 2022. According to the seller, all defects and teething problems of the car were repaired in a specialist workshop within a year.

Underbody:

As can be seen in the pictures, the underbody is in good, rust-free condition

. In addition, the underbody

has been welded, preserved and cavity sealed.
