Model history

The Renault Sport Spider was first presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1995 and was designed purely as a sports car. The design of the Sport Spider was characterized by its striking lines and futuristic appearance. With its mid-engine layout and a lightweight construction of just 930 kilograms, the Sport Spider offered outstanding driving characteristics and impressive performance. Renault only produced a total of 1,726 units of the Sport Spider, making it a coveted collector's item.

Summary of the vehicle

The following is a personal comment from the seller: "On February 26, 2002, I found my absolute dream car in St. Augustin. With only 1300km on the clock, one of approx. 2400 Renault Sport Spiders produced worldwide was offered in silver, a two-seater convertible. The first trips were to the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, but it was really fun on mountain passes and in the mountains. The following years were therefore characterized by many truly unique tours with friends, whether to South Tyrol or Friuli, the Swiss or Austrian Alps (e.g. 3 days, 15 passes, 1470km, average consumption 7.35l/100km - sale includes personal highlight tours, if desired). Over the years, the car has been modified several times and fitted with new accessories:  Autumn 2005: engine conversion; a 2.0 16V turbo from the Megane Sport gives the Spider 224 hp and unimagined power. Safety was just as important to me as performance, so 4-point Schroth safety belts were fitted for the driver and front passenger - all with TÜV approval. An oil cooler, steel flex brake hoses and a BMC air filter were also added.  August 2006: installation of a long 5th gear, short shift fingers and a sintered metal clutch  November 2006: new tires and rims (all TÜV-approved) shortly afterwards: 215/40 ZR 17 at the front; 255/35 ZR 18 at the rear. The only drawback of the tires: no snow chain approval (but in winter I would leave the convertible in the garage anyway ; )  In spring 2007, as a master model builder, I designed a tarpaulin roof (5 frames + fabric roof) in collaboration with a sailmaker, a solution for rain and bad weather on long journeys. It is absolutely unique, but the TÜV approval is still pending, which I have never applied for. Other special details of the car: a stainless steel glove compartment; a reading lamp with a gooseneck from the days when people still took maps with them on tours; an old but flawless navigation system and Alcantara seat covers. The Renault Sport Spider on offer is an absolute collector's car - not many bells and whistles, enhanced over the years to make long journeys more pleasant and enjoyable. My great wish now is to find someone who shares exactly this passion and the attention to detail that I have put into this car over the last 20 years. With 224 hp of turbo power and a kerb weight of 980 kg, the Spider is an absolute delight on country roads and mountain passes, but not a car for beginners, highway fans or luxury lovers. Apart from the driver's airbag and the engine control unit, there are no electronic aids; for me, this is exactly what has always made it so special - a car reduced to the essentials. A valuation report from 2019 (odometer reading 38,680 km) is available, today the car has a mileage of 43,600 km. The car has a service history, a new MOT and is accident-free. After more than 22 years, I am now giving this gem away due to changing life situations and hope that a buyer will be found who will develop just as much passion and love for this unique piece and perhaps show it one or two new routes.
