The BMW Z3 ushered in a new era for the German carmaker. It was the first model that was not built in Germany, but at the then new plant in America. Initially equipped with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, the versions after 1996 were fitted with a more powerful 3.2-liter six-cylinder engine. In April 1999, the Z3 underwent a facelift, during which BMW made both visual and technical modifications. Production of the Z3 ended in 2002, with a total of almost 300,000 vehicles produced.
