Model history

The BMW Z3 ushered in a new era for the German carmaker. It was the first model that was not built in Germany, but at the then new plant in America. The Z3 quickly gained notoriety through its appearances in the James Bond film Golden Eye. The BMW Z3 was offered as a roadster and coupé. Initially equipped with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, the versions after 1996 were fitted with a more powerful 3.2-liter six-cylinder engine. In April 1999, the Z3 underwent a facelift, during which BMW made both visual and technical modifications. Production of the Z3 ended in 2002, with a total of almost 300,000 vehicles produced.
