Model history:

As a successor to the increasingly antique-looking Pagoda, the Mercedes-Benz SL of the 107 model series came onto the market in 1971. Unlike its predecessor, the model was available both as a coupé with a longer wheelbase and as a roadster. Initially, V8 engines with 3.5 and 4.5 liter displacement served as propulsion, later six-cylinder models were added. The SL of the R 107 model series quickly became a great sales success, especially in the USA. The model remained in the Mercedes range for around 18 years and was continuously included in current technical developments. By 1989, just over 237,000 roadsters of the 107 model series had been sold.
