Model history

The BMW E9 was designed as a stylish coupé with sporty genes and was further developed from 1971 onwards with the 3.0 CS and 3.0 CSi models. Both variants had a six-cylinder engine enlarged to just under 3 liters. The 3.0 CS relied on two register carburetors and delivered around 180 hp, while the 3.0 CSi achieved around 200 hp thanks to electronic fuel injection. The coupé was available with either a manual 4-speed transmission or a 3-speed automatic. From 1974 onwards, vehicles for the US market were fitted with larger bumpers to comply with local safety regulations. The E9 continues to impress today with its balanced blend of elegance, driving comfort, and sportiness – an icon of classic automotive engineering from Munich.

Insgesamt entstanden 30.546 Wagen. Nachfolger des E9 wurde 1976 die erste 6er Baureihe (E24). LG Tom
