The Cooper and Cooper S designations represented the sportier variants of the classic Mini, in conjunction with the involvement of John Cooper and the Cooper Car Company. The sporty tradition was emphasized by the John Cooper Works (JCW) tuning options, and the company also created the Mini Cooper S Works with a more powerful exhaust system, air filter, upgraded brakes, suspension and special 17-inch wheels.
