    Technik: Der W 140 markiert mit Vernetzung der Steuergeräte per CAN-Bus und Doppelverglasung einen Technologiesprung bei Mercedes-Benz. Aber auch mit den deutlich gewachsenen Außenabmessungen sollte der Führungsanspruch von Mercedes-Benz innerhalb der Oberklasse deutlich gemacht werden. Durch die Ergänzung des Motorenangebots durch das große V12-Aggregat reagierte man auf den Wettbewerber BMW, der 1987 den E32 750i mit einem Zwölfzylindermotor auf den Markt gebracht hatte. Das Kofferraumvolumen liegt bei 525 l (Limousine) respektive 505 l (Coupé). Der cw-Wert konnte gegenüber dem Vorgänger um über 16 Prozent verringert werden, die mit in den Luftwiderstand einfließende Stirnfläche stieg jedoch von 2,13 m²[12] auf 2,39 m² bei der Limousine. So ergeben sich eine für den Luftwiderstand wirksame Querschnittsfläche (cw × A) zu 0,30 × 2,39 m² bei der Limousine und 0,29 × 2,33 m² beim Coupé. LG Tom
