Introduction

Mercedes-Benz had a 476 hp, supercharged V8 version of AMG for the first time since 2001 (later 500 hp, from 2006: 517 hp). It was based on the previous 5.5-liter naturally aspirated engine. The SL 55 AMG's exterior features included redesigned body panels, darkened headlights as well as taillights, 18-inch rims and a chrome-plated four-pipe exhaust system. Until 2008, a total of just over 19,000 examples of the SL 55 AMG Roadster (R 230) were created.
