Technik: Die erste Generation des Fahrzeugs hatte seine Weltpremiere im September 2009 auf der Internationalen Automobil-Ausstellung in Frankfurt am Main. Es kam Anfang 2010 auf den Markt. Das GranCabrio ist ein viersitziges Cabriolet mit Stoffverdeck auf Basis des GranTurismo. Karosserie und Innenraum gestaltete Pininfarina. Die Produktion im Maserati-Werk in der Viale Ciro Menotti in Modena begann Anfang 2010. Im Mai 2010 wurden die ersten Fahrzeuge ausgeliefert. Der V8-Motor mit 440 PS wird auch bei Ferrari verwendet. Die ZF-Automatikgetriebe beinhalten folgende Betriebsarten: Auto Normal Mode, Auto Sport Mode, Auto ICE Mode, Manual Mode. Auto Normal Mode schaltet die Gänge automatisch, bei ruhiger Fahrweise schon bei niedrigen Drehzahlen für hohen Komfort und bei einem sportlicheren Fahrstil erst bei höheren Drehzahlen. Auto Sport Mode wechselt die Gänge 40 % schneller als der Normal Mode, schaltet bei Gaswegnahme vor einer Kurve herunter; aktiviert die Stabilitätskontrolle; stimmt das Skyhook-Fahrwerk härter ab; öffnet die Auspuffventile ab 3000/min (in GranTurismo S, S Automatic und GranCabrio). Der Auto ICE mode reduziert das maximale Drehmoment, verhindert Anfahren im ersten Gang und erlaubt Gangwechsel nur unterhalb von 3000/min. Die sequentielle Schaltung umfasst folgende Betriebsarten: Manual Normal and Manual Sport, Manual Sport with MC-Shift, Auto Normal, Auto Sport, Auto ICE Modes. Das Mailänder Karosseriebauunternehmen Touring Superleggera stellte im März 2019 eine Cabrioletversion des Touring Sciàdipersia vor, die auf der Technik des GranCabrio beruht und an den historischen Sportwagen Maserati 5000 GT Scià di Persia erinnern soll.
