Model history

The Mercedes 560SL is considered the flagship in the impressive history of the German automaker. Its introduction at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1985 immediately caused a sensation. Essentially, the 560SL was similar to the popular 500SL, but underwent crucial upgrades, including a new braking system and a powerful 5-liter V8 engine. For the American market, the vehicles were also equipped with rubberized, DOT-compliant bumpers and quadruple headlights. Even as standard, the 560SL was considered extremely high-quality, but there were additional options to choose from, such as heated seats and electronically adjustable headrests. Production of the 560SL spanned from 1986 to 1989, with a total of just under 50,000 units produced.
