The BMW Z3 was introduced in 1995 as a compact roadster and was the first model of its kind from BMW. A coupé version followed in 1998. Both versions received a facelift in 1999 with a revised look and an extended engine range, which went up to 325 hp in the M models. The Z3 was produced at the US plant in South Carolina until 2002. Technically, it was based on the E36 Compact and combined sporty design with classic BMW driving dynamics.
