With the SL of the R 107 series from Mercedes-Benz, luxury finally found its way into the SL class. The sporty gullwing door and agile pagoda had become a comfortable sports car. With its padded dashboard, steering wheel with impact absorber, and fuel tank mounted in the crash-proof area above the rear axle, the new SL offered modern safety features. In addition, low-pollution side windows and rear lights provided added safety. Customers could choose between a wide range of six- and eight-cylinder models with various performance levels.
