Model history
With the SL of the R 107 series from Mercedes-Benz, luxury finally found its way into the SL class. The sporty gullwing door and agile pagoda had become a comfortable sports car. With its padded dashboard, steering wheel with impact absorber, and fuel tank mounted in the crash-proof area above the rear axle, the new SL offered modern safety features. In addition, low-pollution side windows and rear lights provided added safety. Customers could choose between a wide range of six- and eight-cylinder models with various performance levels. The 500 SL, for example, initially delivered 240 hp when it was launched in 1980, then 231 hp from 1981, and finally 245 hp with a catalytic converter and 223 hp with a catalytic converter from 1985.

LG Tom
