Model history:

After the predecessor series W116 had impressively defined the term S-Class - and still does so today - the task of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class of the W126 series, presented at the IAA in 1979, was to consolidate and, if possible, expand the worldwide leading position in the market segment of luxury-class saloons that it had achieved. Targeted technical development and the significantly more modern and attractive design compared to the 116 series ensured that this was achieved effortlessly. In 12 years of production, the Stuttgart company produced around 890,000 units of the W126 - it was not until 1991 that its successor (W140) came onto the market. Until today the S-class of the series W126 is considered as the most built upper class sedan.

General information about the vehicle:

Now in this auction a Mercedes-Benz 420 SE (W126) from first registration 1988 can be acquired, which carries the VIN WDB1260341A412270. The first owner of this Mercedes-Benz was a managing director, who then transferred the sedan to his child. After that the car was bought by the father where it was parked for almost 10 years, who in turn bought it from the father - the original letter of the 420 SE can be presented. Although there is no longer a checkbook available for this S-Class sedan, the total mileage can be traced according to the information provided by the seller and the so-called matching numbers are given according to him. The technology of this 420 SE was very extensively completely overhauled - 1 file full of documents is available, including the original letter A detailed appraisal from February 2023 is available to the vehicle and certifies this Mercedes-Benz a market value of 27,500 € and the condition grade 2. TÜV and AU the seller has already done in February, a H-plate carries the 420 SE already.

Exterior color / paint / body:

"Dark Blue Uni" (color code 904) is the body of this Mercedes-Benz color-technically held, a repainting took place according to statements of the seller only on the passenger door, otherwise the sedan presents itself largely in its original paint. All attachments on the sedan are completely preserved and the appraisal certifies the body a very good condition without corrosion on the outer skin. The seller states that there is a small rust spot on the passenger door at the bottom. The current owner mentions that only age-related paint damage can be found on the exterior. Exterior Rims/Brakes/Suspension:

205/65 tires are mounted on original Mercedes-Benz "Gullideckel" rims - according to the seller, they still show about 90% of their new condition at the rear, at the front they are completely new. According to the value appraisal, the rims were stripped of paint, glass bead blasted and then powder coated. The brake system, the rear axle and the suspension and tie rod joints were new - all bearings were also replaced.

Interior:

In keeping with the exterior color, the interior is also in dark blue, with wood trim elements in the interior providing accents. The seats are made of fabric, there are a few crack marks in the center track of the driver's seat and slight cracks can be seen on the B-pillar trim. Otherwise, given the vehicle's age and the total mileage of this 420 SE, the interior can generally be said to be in good condition. In addition to a sunroof, power steering, central locking, rear reading lights, illuminated vanity mirrors, power windows, ABS, cruise control, power driver's seat and heated front seats, a music system costing €1,800 - adapted from the original radio (Bremen Blaupunkt digital radio with hands-free system) - was installed in this S-Class over the years (retrofitted). Mileage:

268,520 kilometers are to be taken from the simple speedometer - all instruments and displays are full function and many bills over servicing/repairs are present to the 420 SE.

Engine:

From 4.2-liter displacement generates this 420 SE, which is equipped with a LPG gas system (the LPG gas system can be back-arranged according to salesman data without residue), with its 8 cylinders 231 HP. In the course of the overhaul of this Mercedes-Benz, among other things, the cylinder heads were extensively reworked (valves, camshafts, timing chain and camshaft sprockets) and the entire injection system was overhauled (injection nozzles with ultrasonic cleaning, pumps, flow dividers, pressure regulators and all fuel lines), in addition, the steering, the tank, the timing chain and many rubber parts were new and the engine compartment underwent a partial preservation. Furthermore the following parts were installed: Cruise control control unit (new), overvoltage relay (new), fuel pump relay (new), various new sensors, air conditioning, radiator, evaporator, compressor and many other new parts. individual gears are engaged via a 4-speed automatic transmission and the power of the 8 cylinders is thus transmitted to the rear axle.

Underbody:

According to the valuation report, no corrosion can be detected on the underbody of this Mercedes-Benz - moreover, the current vehicle owner states that the underside of the car has been partially preserved and is in correspondingly clean condition. Design, comfort and robustness make a 126-series S-Class a terrific (touring) sedan. This 420 SE released here for auction was only recently extensively overhauled and convinces beside its classically beautiful color combination among other things by its very good technical condition. Furthermore, the seller mentions that the following parts will be included with the 420 SE: Second set of (overhauled) "Gullideckel" alloy wheels, headlight cleaning system, electrically adjustable steering column, retrofit set of electric rear windows, retrofit set of front and rear entry lights, rear cigarette lighter, as well as 2x boxes full of other parts.
