Jaguar MKII (1964)

Vehicle description

Model history:

British understatement knows many manifestations. Jaguar's Mark 2 is a prime example: launched in 1955, first with 2.4 liters, then with 3.4 liters of displacement; the most powerful engine was a 3.8-liter inline six. The basic shape of its body with radiator face of the XK-150 sports car, the Mk 2 takes over from its predecessor with minor changes. As a result, some body sections are still influenced by the pre-war style: The closely spaced main headlights, the rounded rear end, and the "spats", the removable covers on the rear wheel cutouts. The main difference, however, are the window areas which have been enlarged by almost 20 percent in the Mk2.

General information about the vehicle:

Such a classic in the 3.8 liter variant can now be purchased in this auction: A Jaguar Mark 2 from the year of manufacture 1964. The left-hand drive car was first registered in the USA and had 3 different owners there, the import to Germany took place in 1994. Since the Jaguar with the chassis number P223322DN has been in Germany, it is in family ownership and has an H-registration. On the basis of various documents the history of the Jaguar can be approximately reconstructed. Immediately after import, the Mark 2 was restored without regard to cost, according to the seller. In the course of time, various additions and modifications were made by specialist workshops and, where necessary, approved by the TÜV: According to the seller, the modifications were primarily for safety and comfort. A Classic-analytics appraisal dating from 2015 is available and certifies the Jaguar as condition grade 2 and for the modifications an increase in value of approximately €10,000 compared to the median market value. In total, according to the current owner, the Mark 2 has 3 keepers since it was imported to Germany within the family for age reasons. The fresh TÜV runs until March 2025.

Exterior color/paint/body:

A two-tone paint in beige/white adorns the body of this Mark 2. The complete body of the Jaguar was reworked after import and then preserved and subsequently painted in the current two-tone paint. Overall, the exterior of this Jaguar presents itself in very good condition, only the chrome and trim parts installed on the vehicle show minimal patina in places. Also minimal signs of aging can be seen on the paint. Glazing and lighting of the car are without defects. The neuralgic zones such as rust on sills, wheel arches, jacking points and lower door edges are obviously in perfect condition. Also otherwise this Jaguar Mk2 shows itself in rust-free and not used body condition. The seller can completely exclude an accident.

Exterior Rims/Brakes/Chassis:

New tires provide good road holding, the original chrome spoke wheels still shine as they should and the brake system shows a condition of 70-90% according to seller statements. In the brake area, the system was converted to a 3-piston brake system from the Jaguar E-Type (Series 3). Modifications in the suspension area include the installation of Spax adjustable shock absorbers.

Interior:

Beige leather seats and wood inlays adorn the interior of this Jaguar Mk2. The restoration work also covered the interior of the Mark 2: Here, all trim parts as well as the seats have been refurbished and covered with genuine leather, the footwell carpet has been custom-made, and the wood inlays have been covered with clear lacquer. All instruments and switches are fully preserved. The following modifications have been installed in this Jaguar: Removable Lecarra steering wheel, 3-point automatic seat belt, cruise control, power windows, electronic immobilizer, battery disconnect switch in glove box.

There

is no damage or even signs of wear to the interior of the Mk2.

Mileage:

The five-digit speedometer shows a mileage of approximately 22,100 kilometers since the 1994 restoration. A history of the Jaguar 3.8 can be presented in part, all instruments are in perfect working order.

Engine:

The inline six cylinder of this Jaguar generates 168 hp from 3.8 liters of displacement, the power transmission was converted to an automatic transmission of the Jaguar XJ6 (Borg Warner BW66). Other modifications in the technical area include the conversion to a three-phase alternator, the installation of an electronic ignition system and the installation of an oil cooler. Furthermore, H4 headlights were used and an approved fire extinguishing system found its place in the car. Furthermore, an electric water pump, a high performance radiator and a Kennlow electric fan were installed. The entire drivetrain was completely overhauled during the restoration work, the electrical system was completely renewed and, according to the seller, immediately improved. A final service took place in March 2021.

Underbody:

Rust is obviously not an issue on the underside of the Jaguar Mk2

either.

To sum up, a Jaguar MK2 is most impressive for its distinctive body lines, sporty-sounding engine and rich features. This Jaguar can be driven in everyday life without any problems due to the completed modifications and also proves to be a safe and in some respects improved classic car for the future owner without any pending work. The seller still lets mention that all conversion measures have been carried out with care and all original parts, which have been replaced, are still present.
