Model history
This successor to the XJ6 III was developed in collaboration with Ford, retaining the Jaguar design language but significantly improving the vehicle's build quality, durability and serviceability. The XJ40 is the link between the traditional Jaguar XJ6 / XJ12 Series III models and its successor, the XJ300, with which it shares almost all of its technology. The engine compartment of the XJ40 was designed so narrowly that only the in-house 6-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of up to 4.0 liters could be installed, but not the unpopular V8 models from the new Ford parent company. However, the American market in particular demanded the prestigious V12 models, so the decision was made to expand the in-house V12 from 5.3 to 6.0 liters displacement, to modernize it (including making it more efficient) and to expand the entire front end of the XJ40 in order to be able to install the significantly wider, in-house V12 engine from Jaguar. This resulted in the internal series designation XJ81, which was used exclusively with the V12 from 1993 to mid-1994. In the almost two years of production, the total number of units was in the low 4-digit range, of which only a few hundred left-hand drive vehicles still exist in Europe. The V12 models have a number of sporty features as standard in order to bring the higher weight and power to the road as befits their status. In tests, the XJ81 is described as sportier than the 750 from BMW and just as comfortable as the S-Class of the time - with greater prestige. At the same time, they are comparatively economical and can be driven at a cruising speed of approx. 150 km/h with approx. 15 l/100 km. In comparison, the predecessor had a much higher fuel consumption - and was a long way from a top speed of 250 km/h like the new V12.

Summary
An extremely well-preserved Jaguar XJ12 6.0 (XJ81) from 1994 is offered for sale here. The vehicle was originally imported from Switzerland and has been in German ownership since 2021. The classic car presents itself in a very well-kept overall condition with a fresh MOT and engine service; this is further underlined by a Classic Data rating of 2+. In addition, the British saloon impresses with its extensive equipment and very low mileage, which can be traced through a checkbook. Because this Jaguar is equipped with a V12 engine, it is one of the rarer models and is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts.
