Model history

The Porsche 964, first introduced in 1989, was a drastic further development of the Carrera 3.2. It was initially offered as the all-wheel drive "Carrera 4", followed by the rear-wheel drive version "Carrera 2" in 1990. The 964 was the last model with the classic removable Targa roof.
Equipped with a 3.6-liter boxer engine and a revised chassis with coil springs, the 964 featured power steering and ABS as standard for the first time. The aerodynamics were improved with flush bumpers and an electric rear spoiler system. Inside, dual airbags and an improved air conditioning system were introduced.
