Vehicle description

Model history:

The AMC (American Motors Corporation) Javelin was not only built in the States, but also in Germany! The Karmann-Werke in Osnabrück took on the assembly of a few hundred cars in the 1960s to popularize the "American Way of Drive" in Europe and especially in Germany. In terms of design, the Javelin was very much in line with European ideas, but it was only when you took a look under the hood that its true character was revealed: here, a V8 engine was at work, delivering its power to the rear wheels either via a manual 4-speed or a 3-speed automatic transmission. While the Javelin met with rather reserved interest on the German market, it rivaled Ford and Chevrolet in the States.

The

construction period of the Javelin lasted from 1967 to 1974.

General information about the vehicle:

Now offered for auction in this auction is an AMC Javelin SST from first registration 1972, which carries the chassis number A2C797P297018 and is an import (imported in 2016) from the USA. Whether the matching numbers are given, the seller can no longer say exactly - however, according to him, 2 owners should have called the AMC their own. Partially, the mileage of the partially restored Javelin can be traced according to the current owner due to available invoices, a checkbook is no longer available.

The

MOT runs until March 2024 and the classic car already has an H license plate.

Exterior color/paint/body:

The Javelin presents itself to the observer with pronounced bulges over the front wheel arches and a perky hip curve in the rear side panels. According to the current owner, repainting of the red body cannot be ruled out - an accident-free condition during the current holding period can be ruled out in any case. All chrome trim elements as well as the paint seem to be in good condition for their age and the seller states that the paint has been nano-sealed to protect it from the weather and from damage caused by dirt.

The

exact condition of the exterior can be seen in the other photos.

Exterior Rims/Brakes/Chassis:

Mounted on 5-spoke rims are Nexen tires, which should have a condition of 70-90% according to the seller - in the area of the braking system, the current owner also attests the brakes a condition rating of 70-90%. At the rear axle this Javelin sweats some oil and a further defect is stated by the seller at the propshaft, the chassis shows no gross inconsistencies.

Interior:

Black cloth seats with integrated headrests are found in the interior next to a two-spoke steering wheel with red leather cover and wood grain on the door panels as well as on the dashboard and the automatic selector lever. In addition to a contemporary radio, power steering is also on board as equipment in this AMC Javelin SST. Modifications to the interior are apparently not to be listed, moreover, except for a torn up seat of the driver's seat, it shows up in nice shape. The clock in the instrument cluster does not always work according to the seller and the windshield washer system is without function. All instruments, gauges as well as controls show decent function. For a detailed overview of the interior and features of this AMC, please refer to the other photos.

Mileage:

Approximately 72,800 miles (the equivalent of about 117,160 kilometers) this Javelin is said to have traveled from its initial registration in 1972 to the present

.

According to the

current owner, the mileage can be partially verified by various invoices.

Engine:

From a 5.9-liter (360 cui) V8 engine, the AMC Javelin SST generates a whopping 220 horsepower, which is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 3-speed automatic and thus put on the road. The car has a red engine block unlike the standard AMC engines (blue and or green). According to the seller, these blocks were only installed in 1972 to mark the cars sold in California (to meet the stricter emission regulations there). A major overhaul of the automatic transmission took place in 2020. Among the most recent work done, the seller also counts the renewal of the Edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor, a service was this AMC last subjected in October 2022. Furthermore, ignition cables, plugs, distributor cap, valve cover gasket were renewed. In total, according to the seller, there are invoices of about 13,000 € since 2016.

Underbody:

Only light flash rust can be seen according to the statements of the seller on the otherwise solidly held underbody of the car. According to the seller, the underbody was ice-blasted, freed from the old underbody protection and sealed with wax including wheel arches. Both are therefore verifiable without repair sheets and rust-free. Not only in the USA and in Germany the AMC Javelin was built - also in Mexico, on the Philippines, in nezuela as well as in Australia Javelins were assembled under license. By the way: The name Javelin means "throwing spear". With this AMC Javelin offered here from first registration 1972 one drives an eye-catcher on the today's roads - compact dimensions and nevertheless a bullish appearance paired with V8-blubber and an eye-catching lacquer finish stand on the credit side of this pony car.

Wow.... wieso kannick nur besser kieken und hören als denken?! Ein weiteres wunderbares Gefährt. Ich habe zwei Fragen. 1. Was heißt "schwitzt etwas Öl an der Hinterachse? Gibt es dafür einen Grund? Menge?
