In 1996, the first Mercedes SLK (R170 series) based on the C-Class (W202) was introduced in Germany. It was the first modern car with a folding steel roof and sold very well. The Bremen-built roadster is characterized not only by its good workmanship and torsional rigidity, but also by a folding steel roof, which is particularly weatherproof and therefore suitable for winter compared to a fabric hood.
