To the superficial observer, all VW Beetles look the same. In fact, the Wolfsburger was modified several times in its long running time: It made the biggest leap in 1970. This year, it received a modern chassis all around and thus also a new front end. The 1302 offered from 1970 onwards was replaced by the VW 1303 from 1972. Although the chassis remained the same, there were further modifications of the front end and the trunk, the windshield and the dashboard were fundamentally changed. So-called "elephant foot" taillights replaced the old "iron" taillights. VW built the 1303 sedans until 1975, after which the VW 1303 was only available as a convertible, which was produced until 1980.

In this auction a VW 1303 LS Cabriolet from the year of construction 1978 is offered, which was first delivered to the USA, more precisely in sunny California. Imported to Germany, the cabriolet with the chassis number was 1582043915 then in 1995, from where it was registered until 2001. Since then, the beetle has remained in only one hand until today. According to the seller, a history of 1303 is available by means of various documents. In the course of the full restoration, a master body builder first renewed the base plate including the structure and the paintwork. In 2018, this work was completed by a restoration specialist from Hamburg over a period of 3 years due to illness. The total cost of all restoration work amounted to more than € 40,000. Subsequently, a valuation report was prepared by the company Classic-Analytics, where the Beetle received the condition grade 2+ (see in the Documents section). 2 keys are still available for the car, the Beetle already has an H-approval and the TÜV is valid until March 2023.

In the course of the extensive restoration work, in which this Beetle was meticulously rebuilt with many new parts, a complete painting of the cabriolet in the original "blue metallic" shade took place. The external condition of this 1303 LS can be classified as flawless, obviously the restoration was carried out with great attention to detail and above all with a lot of passion: defects in the beetle are not to be found, even rust is not an issue. The gap dimensions are uniform all around and all trim parts are present on the vehicle in damage-free condition. No modifications have been made to the exterior. An accident is ruled out by the current owner.

New tyres are fitted to the original steel rims with chrome hubcaps. The brakes are also in mint condition, and the chassis was also used during the restoration: this presents itself without any apparent defects.

A flawless condition can be attributed to the interior of the VW 1303 LS: In the entire interior of the Beetle, neither missing parts, defects nor signs of wear can be detected, which could cloud the extremely well-constructed interior condition. The four-spoke steering wheel with the Wolfsburg logo in the middle is covered with leather, the gear knob is also made of leather. In addition to the Colorglas windscreen, the equipment of this VW also includes a Pioneer CD accessory radio. All instruments in the interior perform their duties without hesitation.

In the speedometer – placed in the middle of the driver's cockpit – is the fuel gauge and the speedometer: the read mileage of the 1303 is 77,510 miles, which would correspond to a mileage of about 124,740. However, due to the complete restoration, this beetle has been revised in every respect and therefore presents itself in a dewy state. The original on-board folder and the service booklet are available.

The original "AJ" boxer engine with injection system (Bosch L-Jetronic) works in the rear of the Beetle and ensures a power output of 50 hp from 1.6-liter displacement. Shifting is via a 4-speed center shift. Technical defects do not exist, a last service was completed in February 2021.
