ster, pro duced from 1954 to 1957, set new stan dards in the sports car seg ment. As the suc ces sor to the XK120, it fea tured improved brakes, rack-and-pin ion steer ing, increased sus pen sion travel and tele scopic shock absorbers. With the XK 140 SE, Jaguar offered a sports ver sion, the so-called S ver sion, whose engine took over the cylin der head of the Jaguar C-Type, which thus pro duced 30 hp more (210 hp in total). It also received a twin exhaust sys tem and a few other addi tions. Under the hood of the road ster is a 3.4 liter six-cylin der engine, cou pled with a man ual gear box. The inte rior fea tures an ele gant leather inte rior. Because the XK140 SE was one of the best sports cars of its time, it is now con sid ered an absolute col lec tor's item.

Technik: In technischer Hinsicht basierte der XK 140 auf seinem Vorgänger. Dessen Chassis und Fahrwerk wurden weitgehend unverändert übernommen. Die wesentlichen Modifikationen betrafen den Motor. Jaguar bot nun eine Sportausführung, die sog. S-Version an, dessen Motor den Zylinderkopf des Jaguar C-Type übernahm. Die Basisausführung des 3442 cm³ großen Sechszylinder-Reihenmotors leistete 190 bhp, die S-Version dagegen 210 bhp. Die leistungsstärkere Ausführung war nur in Verbindung mit der Zusatzausstattung „Special Equipment“ erhältlich, die man jedoch auch mit dem einfacheren Motor bestellen konnte. Über ein Viergang-Getriebe (auf Wunsch mit Overdrive) mit Mittelschaltung trieb dieser die Hinterräder an. Die Höchstgeschwindigkeit lag bei gut 200 km/h. Für amerikanische Kunden gab es im Fixed Head Coupé und im Drophead Coupé auch ein Dreigang-Automatikgetriebe von Borg-Warner. Die Karosserien wurden mit nur wenigen Änderungen vom Vorgänger übernommen. LG Tom
