In the fall of 1984, the Mercedes W124 series debuted, which later became known as the E-Class. Originally available exclusively as a sedan, variants such as station wagon, coupe, convertible and a long-wheelbase version were soon introduced. Initially, the models were equipped with a 4-cylinder gasoline engine, later followed by a 6-cylinder and finally a version with a diesel engine. Finally, a variant with a V8 engine was also offered. The E-Class quickly gained popularity due to its attractive design and durable engine and was often used as a taxi. A total of almost 2.5 million copies were produced by 1997.
