Model history

In November 1984, Mercedes-Benz presented the new W124 mid-range model series on the market. Compared to its predecessor, the W123, the W124 was a visual revolution - the technical features initially remained the same. The ingenious space frame rear axle was adopted from the baby Benz (W201) introduced in 1982, and the front axle with spring struts also came from the 190. Many engines from the Benz modular system were revised, but many were also new over the years. There was also a lot in terms of model variants - including the Estate, which came along as a luxurious estate: the Estate adopted the technology of the saloons, but for the luxury models, level control and up to 2,000 liters of stowage capacity - with the rear seats folded down - came as standard.
