Porsche 911 Targa SWB Softwindow (1967)

Vehicle description

Model history:

The concept, which was promoted as a "safety cabriolet" with a fixed Targa bar, fold-down rear window and removable folding roof, was the Zuffenhausen response to the increased safety requirements for cabriolets in the USA. Even then, the Swabian sports car manufacturers proved perfectly that safety - especially in the event of a rollover - and fresh air fun need not be mutually exclusive. And because the 911 remained a sports car even as a Targa, the name was inspired by the legendary "Targa Florio" road race in Sicily, where Porsche celebrated great sporting successes in its day. From model year 1969, the opening "softwindow" was replaced by a fixed rear window made of safety glass.

General information about the vehicle:

This Porsche released for auction here is a Porsche 911 SWB (Short Wheel Base) Softwindow Targa. According to the seller, the vehicle was first registered to the Porsche General Agency in Salzburg-Porschehof in 04/1967 and sold to the first owner in 09/1967. This sold the vehicle 1980 to the Porsche Automuseum Pfeifhofer in Gmünd. From there the car went from Austria to Germany to its second owner in 1986. In 1997, according to the seller, the Porsche went to the third owner, here a full restoration took place until 1999. The vehicle was restored on the body side very extensively on the straightening bench incl. floor, tank floor, new side parts and sills etc.. In 2009 the fourth owner followed who drove the car until 2021 and then sold it to the current owner. The current owner has known the vehicle since 2009. The vehicle is accompanied by 87 invoices, 31 pictures of the body work and MOT reports from 1999 to 2020. This 911 already has the so-called H-registration and the last completed TÜV shows a validity until May 2024. The vehicle will be handed over to the new owner with a fresh HU/AZ. It is worth mentioning that the matching numbers are given after consultation with the seller on this 911 SWB Softwindow Targa from 1967.

Exterior Color/Paint/Body:

The dark green paint of this sports car from Zuffenhausen is visually very pleasing: According to the current owner, there are a few slight signs of use on the exterior - but these do not affect the basically well-preserved exterior condition of the Porsche. In the course of the restoration work, the paint coat was replaced. In addition to the various chrome elements - which still shine extraordinarily well - all other add-on parts that can be found on the body are obviously completely preserved. An accident-free condition is confirmed by the seller. The targa roof as well as the softwindow show no traces of damage.

Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:

tires

in the dimension of 165 SR 15 present themselves mounted on silver five-spoke Porsche rims. The seller estimates the condition of the tires as well as the condition of the brakes: according to his estimation, this should be around 70-90%. Inconsistencies in the chassis area are not known to the current owner.

Interior:

Black partial leather seats with well formed side bolsters provide together with the 4-spoke wood steering wheel as well as the black/silver accents in the interior for a successful overall appearance. A certain 1960s charm comes through in this interior. Equipment features on board this Porsche 911 SWB Softwindow Targa include a fire extinguisher in the passenger footwell and a period radio. The softwindow operates flawlessly and the targa roof can also be easily removed from its latch and also reinserted. There are no signs of wear or missing parts in the interior.

Mileage:

Green digits can be found in the round instruments of this Porsche 911 from 1967 - on the speedometer, which has five digits, a mileage of 75,515 kilometers can be read. A precise record of the total mileage is no longer available. All instruments, gauges and controls in the interior work perfectly.

Engine:

131 hp is produced by the air-cooled 2.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine, which is installed in the rear of the Porsche. A 5-speed manual transmission engages the individual gears and the power from the 6 cylinders is delivered to the rear axle. Final service work took place in May 2023.

Underbody:

No inconsistencies can be discovered on the underside of the Porsche that could tarnish the very good overall appearance of this Zuffenhausen sports car - the seller speaks of a rust-free, preserved as well as cavity-sealed underbody. After the completion of the restoration work, this Porsche 911 SWB Softwindow Targa was only occasionally driven. This early Porsche 911 represents a piece of contemporary history, which with the softwindow represents its own history at Porsche.
