Model History

With the 991 series, Porsche introduced a fundamentally redesigned generation of the 911 starting in 2011. For the first time, the body was constructed using a hybrid aluminum-steel design, which enabled a significant weight reduction despite increased safety requirements. The body-in-white alone was about 80 kg lighter than its predecessor. The wheelbase increased by 100 mm, yet the 991 was lighter and stiffer overall. In addition to more efficient six-cylinder boxer engines with up to 12% lower fuel consumption, modern manufacturing techniques and revised aerodynamics were employed. Externally, the 991 remained true to its design language but introduced new accents with details such as flatter LED taillights and door mirrors styled after earlier models.
